Volunteers needed at Metro Cat Rescue

Donate at the Metro Cat Rescue GoFundMe Page.

Metro Cat Rescue especially needs volunteers for trapping and transportation of cats to the vet. Fosters, including people who can care for kittens — especially in the summer months — also are required.

If you can do something else that will save kittens and cats, please do contact us, too, with an outline of your skill set and ideas. If you now are caring for community cats, let us know where the colony is and what resources / assistance is required.

To help us help cats in need, email MetroCatRescue@gmail.com with VOLUNTEER as the subject. Do include your contact information, your location, your experience, what you can do, and availability.

Metro Cat Rescue coordinates the volunteer care of many outdoor cats in a number of colonies. We’re working hard to bring some inside to socialize and to place in good homes. This takes lots of time, space and money.

Our day with the rescue cats starts at 6am and ends at 8pm. Volunteer feeding of community cats is at dawn.

Metro Cat Rescue needs your help so that we can continue to help cats living in the streets. It’s quick and convenient to DONATE. Just click on the Link above to our GoFundMe Page If everyone reading this gave SOMETHING, we’d be well on the way to providing for suffering cats who have to fend for themselves. THANK YOU!

Neighborhood cat backyard breakfast

One of the breakfast regulars, this tortie uses a volunteer’s backyard installation.

In secure locations, dishes are provided. For the cats fed in front yards or the sidewalk, just enough dry food that the cats will eat is placed on the ground. This is to keep the ill-intentioned from knowing that cat feeding is taking place there.

The beautiful Venus DeCoco was a feral kitten when she arrived.

The beautiful Venus DeCoco was a feral kitten when she arrived

The beautiful Venus DeCoco, born among the cars in an inner-city parking lot, was a feral kitten when she arrived. Indeed, when first placed in her temporary quarters, Ms. DeCoco delivered a solid bite to a finger with one long tooth neatly bouncing off of the bone. (The current bandage does not reflect that drama; the irritation so covered just is from washing the little crew’s bowls.)

Venus DeCoco’s days as a wild cat are oh so 2016. Now quite the lovey-dovey, she wants to be held all day.

Metro Cat Rescue more popular than Joe Piscopo on Facebook!

Metro Cat Rescue has more Facebook Likes than Joe Piscopo, 6,226 to 3,793.

Metro Cat Rescue’s Anthony Olszewski – former bartender, former exterminator, lifelong resident of Jersey City and current member of Mensa — was asked to comment:
“I was surprised and humbled to learn that the Facebook audience finds Metro Cat Rescue’s pictures and stories of saved kittens and cats more interesting than Joe Piscopo. Piscopo – star of stage, screen, tube and speaker, ambassador of New Jersey culture and possible candidate for statewide office – has a 50,000 watt radio transmitter to let people know that he’s there. All I’ve got is a storefront on a side street in Jersey City!”

And the Metro Cat Rescue Facebook 6,226 Likes paw print is bigger than that of other radio celebrities, too. There’s Frank Morano (2,394), the 50,000 watt behemoth radio stations AM 970 (3,577) and WOR 710 (6,152), Gotti Family fan (NOT!) Curtis and attorney avec pony tail Kuby (6039), and even “One of America’s most listened to Radio/TV personalities, heard by over 16 million radio listeners a month” Mark Simone (5,868).

Anthony Olszewski and friends established Metro Cat Rescue to save kittens and cats — like those abandoned to the cruel horrors of the street by heartless owners. Metro Cat Rescue also cares for kittens that shelters routinely kill for being “too much trouble”. The dream is to establish a facility to provide care for homeless kittens and cats with easily treated but contagious conditions — those innocents that now elsewhere regularly are made to die.

Beautiful Venus DeCoco and the rest of the little Metro Cat Rescue crew want to thank everyone who donated through our Amazon Wish List. Each should have received a note of appreciation. If anyone did not, please accept a BIG THANK YOU with this post.

Perhaps due to the holidays rush, some of the Amazon deliveries arrived without paper work. Because of that, there was no way of contacting the donors to let them know how grateful we are.

Venus DeCoco was a kitten living in a cared for colony of ferals. As the chill of autumn set in once and for all, the tyke’s health began to fail.

Venus came to Metro Cat Rescue sick with a cold and had to be kept by herself so as not to infect the other kittens and cats. Missing her life of freedom and friends, the little girl often sobbed with tears falling from her eyes. Very wild, human friendship at first was rejected.

After a trip to the vet, medicine, good food and warmth, Venus DeCoco became well, She has a kitten buddy. Beautiful Venus now loves people and is happy to be held all day.

Here’s Venus DeCoco, a beautiful autumn leaf shaded calico. A feral kitten living in a parking lot in Newark, her health began to fail as the weather turned cold. Metro Cat Rescue now has Venus inside for recuperation and socialization.

The wiring behind Venus is for a reptile heater that’s attached underneath a pyrex baking dish. With a towel that’s changed every day on top, this provides a warm and cozy bed for a kitten in need.

Bird Rescue

Confidant that we would provide proper care for these Zebra Finches, distance was not a problem.

When a bird lover’s boiler failed last December, they realized that quick action was going to be needed to save the lives of their little pets. Even though located eighty miles away in Upstate New York, they drove to New Jersey to bring the birds here.
