When anyone has a medical emergency, they need immediate professional care! DON’T RISK DEATH BY CROWDSOURCING!

Behavioral Psychology reduces itself to absurdity when it tells parents not to comfort a crying infant. CATS ARE NOT LITTLE PEOPLE! If a cat is upset, leave it alone! If it can be done safely, get the cat in an enclosed space (bathroom, cat playpen, etc.) If a frantic cat is in a playpen or a carrier, cover the enclosure with a large towel, sheet, or (if the room temperature is not warm) a blanket. The darkness gives cats a sense of security.

If the health of a cat has not been verified by a veterinarian, keep the new cat in a separate space from your current pet(s). A cat just brought in will very likely have fleas. Make sure that cats currently in your care are up to date with flea medication. Without doubt, fleas will hitch a ride on your clothes and soon infest the whole house.

Until and unless tested, assume that a new cat has FIV and/or FeLV. These are contagious feline diseases.

Strangely, many ignorant and delusional people think that simply seeing a cat in the area means that there is a risk of disease. Sadly, this includes all too many Oncologists and Gynecologists. These who should know better, at the very least, don’t understand Parasitology. (I often wonder if a complete lack of knowledge of Germ Theory is the real problem and there’s a belief in miasmas and emanations.)

When actually HANDLING a cat, there are disease risks — from ringworm to rabies. Zoonotic disease is a particular concern with feral cats.
Viruses
(rabies, cowpox)
Bacteria
(anthrax, campylobacter infection, cat scratch disease, diphtheria, leptospirosis, listeriosis, Lyme disease, plague, salmonellosis, shigellosis, streptococcal infection, tularemia, and yersinia infection, rickettsiae, Q fever)
Fungi
(blastomycosis, dermatophytoses, spororrichosis)
Helminths
(cutaneous and visceral larval migrans)
Cestodes
(dipylidiasis, echinococcus)
Protozoa
(amebiasis, cryptosporidiosis, giardiasis, toxoplasmosis, trichomoniasis); and ectoparasites (scabies)
(Lappin 1993).

Under Viruses, influenza can be included. (Cats have been infected by people with SARS CoV 2. I don’t know of any case of a person becoming sick with CoViD 19 through a cat.)

Even with a known healthy cat, introductions must be made with care. There’s NO REASON to think that the current feline resident will be immediately happy when another cat is brought to the home. The perception will be that the new cat is an intruder. To start, have the recent arrival in a cat playpen or large dog carrier. When the cats begin to interact in a positive manner through the bars, then they can be allowed together under supervision.

Giving any amount will be a huge help. Unfortunately, right now we have no idea what our funding will be next month — or even next week. Helping to make it possible for Metro Cat Rescue to plan for the future will mean so many more kittens and cats will be saved.

Metro Cat Rescue is a 501(c)(3). EIN Assigned: 82-0701118. Donations, gifts, and bequests are US tax deductible. You can also check if your employer has a corporate matching gift program.

Many hours are spent each day feeding, washing bowls, providing worm medicine and laundering the cats’ beds. So that Metro Cat Rescue can do more, we need your help! We’ve run out of space to take in any additional cats. And there’s the time — with the kittens and moms that we have here now, the day starts at 6am and ends at 11pm.

Metro Cat Rescue needs a bigger and better space. We also need the funds to hire someone — at least — part time to help with the chores.

Metro Cat Rescue has no cushion of dedicated funds for medical care. As it stands now, for each and every vet visit — standard checkups and neutering, too, not just emergencies — has to be paid for by pleading for help on Facebook. This sometimes means that a sick cat suffers for days waiting for medical attention.

Metro Cat Rescue receives no grants or taxpayer dollars. To help kittens and cats in need, we rely on community support. So that Metro Cat Rescue can continue this mission and do more, we need your help. It’s quick and convenient and safe to use this Link to the Metro Cat Rescue GoFundMe Page:

Metro Cat Rescue is in DIRE need of support! EVERY day we get requests that we don’t have the resources to assist with. This means that kittens are born in the street because no one helps us to help them. PLEASE DONATE!

The dream of Metro Cat Rescue is to establish a facility to provide care for homeless kittens and cats with easily treated but contagious conditions — those innocents that now elsewhere regularly are made to die. Sadly, a lack of funds has kept Metro Cat Rescue’s goal on a distant horizon.

Metro Cat Rescue needs your help! We are DROWNING in bills for food, medical costs and supplies. Click on the Link to DONATE. If everyone reading this gave SOMETHING, we’d be well on the way to providing for homeless cats that now need to fend for themselves. THANK YOU!
